Your Umbrella (2002)If you’re downloading music today you're probably well aware of the fuss many record labels and artists are making over peer-to-peer (p2p) trading of mp3s.
We personally believe new digital technologies should be embraced and re-shaped into useful distribution models rather than taking knee-jerk legal action against any perceived threats to income streams.
Rather than stickering Harmonica Pocket albums with the now common FBI anti-piracy logo, we instead encourage our listeners to make copies of our CDs and exchange Harmonica Pocket MP3s on p2p networks.
The FREE MUSIC PROJECT license allows listeners to legally burn copies of our albums for non-commercial use. This basically means copies can be given away as gifts without the exchange of money and we still retain full copyright ownership in the music we create. We don't make any money this way, but then our music isn't gathering digital dust.
Here is the FREE MUSIC PROJECT license in 4 bullets (This is what our lawyer tells us we need to include. Sorry, our over-legislated society necessitates this fine print stuff ):
We encourage other independent artists to adopt the FREE MUSIC PROJECT as a model and to post your own full length mp3s for which you own copyrights.
We intend to keep an "mp3 pool" of full length, high resolution, and totally free mp3s online until a viable, alternative model is conceived and adopted by the industry.
There is an optional tip jar on the mp3 page above. Please consider donating, even if it is just a couple dollars. All donated money goes toward the FREE MUSIC PROJECT's web hosting expenses.
If you like the sounds and can afford it, please pick up a copy of one of our CDs from cdbaby.com (the cheapest place to get them). Don’t spring a hole in your wallet, but recognize that your support of this independently financed and distributed project (and others like it) will ensure that The Harmonica Pocket can continue paying the bills and putting out music.
So please download some free tunes. Spread the good word by sending your music digging friends the link to our site, or by posting links to this page on your regularly visited mp3 blog sites.
